What is Nameless Mountain?

1

Nameless Mountain is a Dharma-based spiritual center in Boulder, CO, devoted to helping people connect with themselves, their bodies, their communities, and the Sacred. Learn more.

Is this a cult?

2

No. Our organization’s approach to spirituality is primarily based on Dharma traditions (Buddhism and Yoga/Sanatana) but we welcome people of all faiths and backgrounds, including atheists and agnostics. We are not interested in convincing you to believe what we do. We are interested in helping you build a strong character, connect more deeply to yourself and the world around you, and renew what is sacred to you.

We respect and treasure the integrity, safety and well-being of each of our members and guests. You may start and stop your membership at any time, for any reason. And you may recuse yourself from any event or activity on the basis of conscience, in part or in full, without fear of censure or judgment. We will never require anyone to adopt our beliefs, and we have strong organizational safeguards in place against religious, psychological and sexual abuse.

So what do you believe?

3

We believe that there is a true but unknowable Mystery, immanent in the world, which gives coherence to human life. It has many names: Dharma, Dao, God - but it is ultimately beyond labels: the Nameless to which all of the world’s great religions and poets have imperfectly gestured throughout human history. Not one mountain with many paths, but many mountains in one sky. We hold this Mystery to be Sacred, by any name. And we believe that human beings truly flourish when we learn to love it, and live our lives in accordance with it.

We believe that people, when sufficiently strong in spirit and well-connected to themselves and their contexts, will naturally have direct, unmediated experiences of the Mystery. This is the first step in developing a mature, meta-rational faith.

We believe that each individual human life is a precious, infinitely complex and beautiful expression of the Sacred. We are therefore committed to building equal, post-identitarian community that gladly dwells in the unknowable Mystery, and operates across religious and spiritual contexts, with genuine tolerance and curiosity for our differences.

We do not tolerate expressions of hate toward any group, regardless of circumstance, identity politics, or perceived power differential: Men are responsible for treating women well, in conduct and speech, and women are equally responsible for treating men well. Trans people are responsible to cisgender people, and vice-versa. People of all races and ethnicities are responsible for treating other races and ethnicities with respect and dignity. And so on.

Every individual is responsible to every other individual, on their own unique terms. Until this is true, none of us are truly free.

I’m new. What should I attend first?

4

Our regular, weekly public events are all beginner-friendly. But we have a monthly metta (loving-kindness) meditation and potluck brunch that’s particularly great for meeting people and seeing if our community is right for you.

Does it cost anything?

5

From guests, we suggest a donation of $20 to attend a weekly event. If you can’t afford it, we would also love for you to volunteer, which lets you earn access to events with your participation. All of our events are free to our sustaining members, at any level.

We sell tickets for our retreats, but we also offer low-cost scholarships for qualified low-income individuals, and participation credits for volunteers.
